The Women's Suffrage (right to vote in political elections) began at a Seneca Falls convention in 1848. Progress flags were made to show the number of states in which women had the right to vote. This progress flag at the Smithsonian represents the four states in which women could vote by 1900: Wyoming (1890), Colorado (1893), Utah (1896), and Idaho (1896). Thirty-six states were needed and Victory was achieved with the ratification of the 19th Amendment on August 18, 1920. |
